Winter storm postpones fundraising concert

Jams for Cans has been postponed.
The Canadian winter got the best of the intentions of some Loyalist students to help the Gleaners Food Bank.
The sudden snowstorm on Wednesday Jan. 28 put a hold to the concert benefit being held at Loyalist College for Gleaners Food Bank, Jams for Cans.
“Jams 4 Cans is an event to raise awareness for Gleaners food bank,” said Kyle MacKenzie, an organizer and performer for the event. “The Loyalist music community is coming together, show casing their skills for a great night of music for an even greater cause.”
Even with the inconvenience of changing dates, organizers and performers say they are looking forward to the event.
“The event was postponed due to weather to Wed. Feb. 11, at 7:30, in the Shark Tank Pub,” said MacKenzie. “It was a bummer that we had to postpone, but I am looking at it optimistically. It will give us more time to promote, prepare and pile in more cans.”
Student performers are taking this extra time to do everything they can to make this event even more entertaining for all those attending.
“The postponing of Jams for Cans will definitely give performers more time to hone their performances. However, the postponing is unfortunate,” said Maxx Lennox, a second-year print journalism student who will be performing.
Performers are still enthusiastic and passionate about the event and are absolutely certain that the show will go on, and out with a bang.
“Well, I can only speak for myself. But, think that everybody will still be pretty pumped to rock out of Feb. 11. I’m actually happy it’s been postponed because I have an extra two weeks to practice,” said Scott Haines, a second-year print journalism student who will be performing.
Admission will still be $2 with a canned food item or $4 without. Organizers and performers are still collecting food in advance for anyone who can’t make it to the event or for anyone who just wants to contribute. Food can be dropped off at the Pionner newsroom, 1n9.
“Spread the word. We'll be jammin' in two weeks,” said Mackenzie.
