Looking Ahead... Lancers in the second half...

The Loyalist Lancer Men kick off half number two of their OCAA basketball season this Friday at George Brown. The game against the Huskies is a nice way to start 2008 for the Lancers and will be a chance for them to build their confidence after a disappointing showing at their own Winter Classic Tournament over the break. The last time the Huskies and Lancers met was at the Lancerdome back on November 13th 2007 where the Lancers came away with a 76-54 victory. Loyalist has already run into some injury trouble, veteran centre Chris Douma has been told not to play or practice after injuring his back at the tournament. The men head into January sitting in fourth place in the OCAA’s Eastern Conference with a 6 and 3 record. The team is already off to it’s best start in recent years and will look to key players like Jamal’s Fletcher and Carter, as well as outside shooting of Josh Mitchell. Overall… the men are looking to be headed towards the playoffs… and if they can gel together…they could make a deep run. The women, meanwhile, headed to Halifax for a tournament over the break. Results from those games aren’t available yet but it’s safe to assume they won at least a couple of games. This year’s edition of the Lady Lancers is the deepest we’ve seen in years. Everyone on the team is capable of scoring points, and more importantly playing defense, which is a key to this team’s success. They also open up their season this coming Friday at George Brown, and will look to improve on their 5-1 record as they focus on their end of season clash with the Seneca Sting, which could determine the number one seed in the East. Without a doubt, we’re in for an excellent second semester of Lancer Basketball.
